In-House Laboratory Services

Fast, accurate results for better veterinary care.

Dr. Kathy Haywood, DVM, has seen how quickly pets can recover when answers come fast. That’s why Montgomery Animal Clinic invested in comprehensive in-house laboratory technology. Instead of sending your pet’s samples to an outside lab and waiting days for results, we perform tests right here in our clinic, often providing results within 15–30 minutes.

This rapid turnaround helps Dr. Haywood make life-changing treatment decisions for pets, ensuring Montgomery County families get clear answers without delay.

What is an In-House Laboratory?

An in-house veterinary laboratory allows us to perform a wide range of tests directly in our clinic, including:

  • Blood chemistry panels
  • Complete blood counts (CBC)
  • Urinalysis
  • Fecal examinations
  • Other diagnostic procedures

Having these capabilities onsite means we can detect illness earlier, monitor chronic conditions more closely, and create treatment plans with confidence, all in the same visit.

Benefits of Our In-House Laboratory

Faster Results, Quicker Treatment

Most results are available within 15–30 minutes, allowing us to begin treatment during the same appointment. This speed is critical for conditions like kidney disease, diabetes, and infections that require immediate attention.

Less Stress for Your Pet

No need for multiple visits just to discuss results. By testing during your pet’s exam, we reduce stress and provide answers right away.

Cost-Effective Diagnostic Care

In-house testing avoids shipping fees and processing costs of external labs, making it an affordable way to receive high-quality care in one visit.

Better Treatment Monitoring

For chronic conditions like diabetes or thyroid disorders, regular testing allows us to track medication effectiveness and adjust treatment plans immediately.

Rapid Emergency Response

During emergencies, quick lab results can guide life-saving treatment decisions. Our lab allows us to rapidly assess organ function, blood cell counts, and other vital markers when every minute counts.

In-House Laboratory FAQs

How long do vet lab results take?

Most in-house tests are ready within 15–30 minutes, including blood chemistry, CBCs, and urinalysis. Some specialized tests may take 1–2 hours, but you’ll still get same-day answers.

How do vets collect dog urine for lab tests?

Methods vary depending on your dog’s needs. We may collect a free-flow sample while your dog urinates naturally, or use a sterile technique called cystocentesis (drawing a small sample directly from the bladder with a fine needle), which is quick and well-tolerated.

How do you read fecal test results?

Fecal tests reveal parasites, abnormal bacteria, or inflammation in the digestive system. Dr. Haywood explains positive results clearly and recommends appropriate treatments. A negative result usually means no parasites or significant bacterial overgrowth are present.
